Sunny Hill & Oxenrig Free Range Eggs Merger
2008-12-12

THE largest producers of free range eggs in North Northumberland and the Scottish Borders have announced they are joining forces.
Sunny Hill Free Range Eggs at Detchant, near Belford, will increase their egg production by over 50% when they take over Oxenrig Eggs, near Coldstream, in 2008 when they aim to have in the region of 54,000 laying hens.
The amalgamation will enable Sunny Hill to further expand sales in the North East market place and open doors into the Scottish markets.
Oxenrig began life as a farm-based round in 1988 by Peter Calder. Today they are the foremost egg producers in the Scottish Borders. With over 20,000 free range hens they distribute to outlets across the Scottish Borders, Northumberland, Edinburgh and the Lothians..
Catherine Armstrong, Director of Sunny Hill, is enthusiastic about the new acquisition and keen to point out that customers and consumers will continue to receive the same quality of service and product as they were getting from Oxenrig.
"We were delighted Oxenrig felt confident enough to approach us with a view to amalgamating the two companies, we have the same standards and goals and so see this as a positive progression," she said.
"It's a huge responsibility to take on Oxenrig and Christine my sister and I are very proud to have been given the opportunity to take this strong brand forward."
Sunny Hill Eggs started life 18 months ago, and is based at Detchant Farm.
With 38,000 hens in this short time they have cracked the north eastern market, becoming one of most talked about farm-based producers in the region.
The combined company will allow the business to expand further on its current success.
